6 SIMPLE TRICKS TO GET PERFECT CURLY HAIR
- KNOW YOUR CURL TYPE
Although we talk about curly hair as if it looks the same for everyone, that’s not true. There are several different types of curly hair: from type 2A (loose waves) to 4C, each one demanding different care. If you don’t know what your curly hair type is, check out this post!
- ALWAYS USE MOISTURIZING CURLY HAIR PRODUCTS
Different types of curly hair face some different issues, however, all of them face a common enemy: dehydration. A lack of moisture in curly hair equals frizz and dryness, and some of the reasons for this are the amount and type of shampoo you use!
To get defined waves or curls, make sure you wash your hair every once in a while, not every day. And ALWAYS use gentle, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, specifically formulated for curly hair!
Our recommendation is Nazca’s Perfect Curls Hair Care kit! You’ll get soft and defined curls with it!
- THROW THE BRUSH AWAY AND GET A COMB
If you have curly hair and use a brush on it, please, get rid of the brush NOW! Brushes can be amazing for straight hair and can even be used in certain wavy hair, however, if your hair type is 2C up, opt for a comb – more specifically, a wide-toothed wooden comb!
Wide-toothed wooden combs are great to detangle curly and wavy hair because they are gentler than brushes and don’t ruin the natural definition of the hair pattern. Not only that, but it also doesn’t result in frizz! So next time you apply your detangling leave-in conditioner, use this type of comb to detangle your hair, ok?
Bonus tip: A nice bonus tip for you is to get a detangling leave-in conditioner that also acts as a curl activator, like this one from Nazca!
- KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF YOUR DRY CURLS
Now that you’ve washed your hair and applied all the defining products to it, leave it alone! A lot of curly-haired and wavy-haired women out there don’t know that you should comb (or worse, brush) your dry hair. When you do that, you’re simply destroying the natural pattern of your hair at the same time you’re contributing to the appearance of frizz! So, please, leave your dry curls and waves alone!
- AIR-DRY, ALWAYS (OR MOST OF THE TIME!)
It’s no news that using a hairdryer frequently is bad for your hair. Its heat can be terrible for your mane, especially when you don’t use a heat protector. But when it comes to curly and wavy hair, using a hairdryer often and without the right precautions is REALLY bad.
Whenever you can, let your hair air-dry! This will surely help with the appearance of your curls and is going to decrease the frizz. However, if you do need to use a hairdryer, don’t forget to use a diffuser with a low heat setting.
If you’re someone who needs to use a hairdryer every time you wash your hair, opt for a high-quality one with a heat setting, like this one from the Brazilian brand Lizze!
- TAKE CARE OF YOUR CURLS AT NIGHTTIME
Don’t let all the care you had with your curls go to waste by forgetting about them at night! To keep your hair’s gorgeous definition, try the “pineapple” hairstyle: do a high ponytail at the top of your head with a soft scrunchy. Besides that, you can also sleep with a silk cap or a silk pillowcase, which helps to avoid friction (one of the main causes of frizz)!
Try adding these tips to your hair care routine to see how your curls and waves are going to be better defined and overall healthier! Also, remember that it’s very important to use high-quality curly hair care products, so make sure you visit Metro Brazil’s website!
