First of all, you should know that there are different reasons why your hair is greasy. It could be a hormonal problem, scalp infections, your diet, or you’re simply using too many oily products! That’s why you should always go to a dermatologist before doing any of the things we are going to talk about, ok? Now, let’s see some awesome tips to reduce hair greasiness!

HOW TO REDUCE EXCESSIVE HAIR OILINESS

  1. NO CONDITIONER TO THE SCALP!

Ok, so this tip is valid for all types of hair – greasy or not. Remember that the purpose of the conditioner is moisturizing, which means it is giving back oils and water to the hair. Therefore, you should apply it only to the areas of your hair that need more moisture, such as the ends (and maybe the length as well)! Please, DON’T apply conditioner to your roots and scalp[2]Singh, K. (2020, September 8). 11 simple ways to get rid of an oily scalp. 1. KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM IT

How many surfaces and things have your hands touched today? Well, even if you haven’t got out of your house, I can certainly say there were many. Just like the hair, human skin has oil as well, so when you touch your hair frequently, you’re adding more oil to it! Also, your hands can move oil from the scalp and roots to the length of the mane.

The same goes for brushing your hair a lot. Brushing your hair too much will stimulate the oil glands, making it greasier! So try to touch or brush your hair only when it is really necessary, ok?

  1. WASH YOUR HAIR DAILY

One of the reasons why hair becomes greasy is because of the leftover residues and oil. If you don’t wash it with the right frequency, the buildup of oils and other remnants will give the aspect of oily, hard hair. To avoid that, you should shampoo your mane once a day, and opt for shampoo destined for oily hair.

  1. OR WASH IT LESS OFTEN

If you already wash your hair every day and it continues to be greasy, it may be that you need to wash it less frequently! Yes, you read it correctly! When you wash your hair too much, the scalp has all the natural oils removed from it. To compensate for such removal, your oil glands produce even more oil, resulting in excessive oiliness!

  1. SHAMPOO THE RIGHT WAY

Did you know that there is a proper way to shampoo your hair? Well, first of all, you should use a small amount of shampoo and apply it only to your scalp and roots. You shouldn’t use your nails to massage your scalp – use the tips of your fingers! Otherwise, you will irritate your scalp!

Moreso, don’t apply shampoo to your hair ends, as it can dry them out. As we said, apply it to your scalp! That way, when you’re rinsing your hair, the foam from your scalp will go through the rest of your hair. And also, don’t shampoo more than once a day!

  1. AIR-DRY AND AVOID FLAT IRONS

By now, we all know that using flat irons and blow dryers in excess and without a thermal protector can damage your hair. That damage is even more visible when it comes to oily hair! So, if you have greasy hair, avoid blow dryers – let your mane dry naturally! And stay away from flat irons as well!

  1. DON’T FORGET TO CLEAN YOUR BRUSH!

Do you brush your hair every day? If you answered “yes”, do you also clean your brush after every time you use it? If you don’t, you should know that another thing that causes hair to be greasy is the contact with all the residues contained in the hairbrush. Remember to clean it with shampoo or soap after you use it! This way, you won’t let the rest of oils, skin, and products get in touch with your hair!

  1. USE NATURAL PRODUCTS

Last but not least, opt for natural products! Ingredients such as coconut oil, tea tree oil, and apple cider vinegar are well-known for being great at removing residues, reducing itchiness and dandruff, as well as balancing the hair’s pH!

By reading the list above, you can see that there are many things you can do to reduce your locks’ greasiness and restore your mane’s health!
