Everything you need to know about dry shampoo

Should you start using DRY SHAMPOO?

You may have seen a lot of people before claiming that dry shampoo completely changed their lives. And, even if you haven’t used this product before, the praise over it is quite understandable: you get washed-looking hair without actually having to get it wet or even taking a shower! But how does it work, exactly? Well, today, we are going to explain everything you need to know about dry shampoo![1]Dunn, M. (2020, December 8). Is Dry Shampoo Bad for Your Hair? Two Trichologists Tell the Truth. HelloGiggles. https://hellogiggles.com/hair/hair-products-tools/is-dry-shampoo-bad-for-your-hair/

WHAT IS DRY SHAMPOO?

Let’s start with the basics. Dry shampoo isn’t actually supposed to clean your hair – it simply removes excessive oiliness by drying it up and adds volume to the hair! Although this means your hair will look good, it isn’t exactly clean…

And what is it made of? Well, the majority of these shampoos are alcohol-based or made of starch, substances that are capable of removing the oils from your scalp and hair! To make it smell nice – as if you had used “real” shampoo – they also contain fragrance! Oh, and you aren’t supposed to wash it out of your hair after applying it, ok? Let it act and go about your day until you decide to wash your hair conventionally.

DOES IT REALLY WORK? SHOULD I USE IT?

If you haven’t used it yourself, you may be wondering if it really works. The answer to this question is: it depends. The effectiveness of dry shampoo depends on your hair type and its overall condition!

  • The hair type that benefits the most from using dry shampoo is greasy. If you can’t handle the amount of oiliness on your locks anymore, you should give it a try! But don’t forget you should normally wash your hair with some frequency to avoid clogged pores and an itchy scalp.
  • People with natural hair need to look for a dry shampoo that is specially made for this hair type.  Otherwise, when you apply the product, it will form flakes, meaning the product will be completely visible in your head!
  • If you have curly hair, know that you can also make the best out of using this type of shampoo! After all, it is healthy to not wash curly hair every day, so if you feel your hair is getting oily or smelling funny but it’s not its washing day, use the dry shampoo! Just don’t comb your locks after applying the product, ok? Shake your mane with your fingers instead.

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

Do you feel like using dry shampoo will benefit you (aka, make your life easier)? If so, it’s time to know how to use this product properly!

  1. Choose a dry shampoo that suits your hair type!
  2. Get any type of accessories out of your dry hair;
  3. Take the can of dry shampoo and keep it about 6 inches away from your head;
  4. Spray the product to your roots and then move the can while you spray it to other areas that you feel are oily;
  5. After applying the product, massage your scalp and hair until it is with volume!

So there you have it! A quick step-by-step on how to apply a spray dry shampoo. But be aware that nowadays this product can come in other forms such as mousse. Also, don’t use it for more than two days straight, and remember to normally wash your hair as well, ok?
